Welcome to our new website!

As you'll see, we have made several changes to make our site more user friendly and informative. Please take a tour and familiarize yourself with our new layout and features.

USOBA’s ultimate goal is to protect consumers and the debt relief options they need now more than ever.  To that end, one of USOBA’s biggest goals is facilitating  the passage of appropriate and consumer protective legislation that will further regulate the debt settlement industry.

Although there  are  many ideas on how best to create a consumer protective piece of legislation, USOBA believes it begins with consumer protection fundamentals  like required disclosures, good business practice requirements, consumer agreement requirements and the banning of deceptive or misleading marketing and advertising.   We believe that the cost for service should be fair and reasonable,  but we  know  that preventing a company from being compensated for work performed is not the answer to creating a protective environment for consumers.

Education is the foundation of consumer protection.  USOBA hosts two informative conferences per year and industry members are welcome to join us and receive education about legal compliance, regulatory adherence and a host of other issues relating to the improvement of good business practices in the debt settlement industry.   We work continuously to educate legislators, regulators, consumer groups and the public about the importance of appropriate regulation of the debt settlement industry, through avenues such as face-to-face visits, teleconferences, representation by lobbyists, public speaking engagements and news releases.

2009 has been an incredibly busy year and we anticipate 2010 to require even more attention and devotion.  Please visit our website often for updates and announcements.  There are many ways that consumers and industry members can make a positive impact on the industry and the financial future of thousands and thousands of Americans.  Help us secure debt relief options, improve consumer protection and build an environment of accountability, credibility and transparency!

 Have a wonderful holiday season!
